01Services

Seven things we do, usually two or three at once

A wall needs drainage behind it, a patio needs a grade under it, and a new lawn needs both. Here is the whole list.

  1. Landscape Design & Installation

Planting plans, garden beds, trees and shrubs, sod or seed, and mulch, drawn for the light and the slope of your lot and then planted by the crew.

  2. Hardscape Construction

Patios, walkways, retaining walls, steps, driveways and entries in pavers, natural stone, brick or concrete.

  3. Outdoor Living & Patios

The rooms outside the house: paver patios, fire pits and fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, pergolas and the lighting that lets you use them after dark.

  4. Grading & Site Prep

Clearing, leveling, soil work, compaction and layout, so a patio, a lawn or a new build starts on ground that stays put.

  5. Drainage Solutions

French and trench drains, buried downspout lines, regrading and dry creek beds for standing water, soggy lawns and wet crawl spaces.

  6. Lawn & Yard Care

Mowing and edging, fertilizer and weed control, aeration and overseeding, bed upkeep, trimming and the spring and fall cleanups.

  7. Project Planning & Consulting

A site visit, a plan, a budget and a schedule before anyone digs, or a second look at a design you already have.

02Design to build

A designer’s company that still digs

Hunter Wilhelm started this business while he was still in high school, and kept it running while he studied landscape architecture at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. That pairing is still how it works: the person who reads the slope and the drainage is the person whose crew builds the wall.

Every job follows the same four steps, whether it is one bed or a whole back yard.

More about Hunter and the company

  1. 01

    Consultation

An on-site visit: the property walked with you, what you want the yard to do, and a look at the slope, the water and the sun before anything is drawn.

  2. 02

    Design

A plan for the planting, the stone and the grades, with the materials picked out and a written estimate you can hold on to.

  3. 03

    Installation

The crew builds it, and at the end walks you through what was done and how to care for it. Most patios and hardscapes take one to three weeks.

  4. 04

    Maintenance

A care plan built around what you planted and what you want to spend, so the yard still looks like the day it was finished.

03Ideas to start from

Three ideas worth borrowing

Pictures to talk over at the consultation. Your yard will have its own answer.

A flagstone terrace set into a slope, with lavender, stone walls and wooden steps down to a deck
Sink the seating into the slopeOn a hillside lot, a terrace dug into the grade gets a wall at its back and a view out, instead of a patio perched on fill.Idea photo
A low stacked-stone wall with clipped shrubs above it, curving beside a paver path and a lawn
Let a low wall do two jobsA knee-high wall holds a raised bed and gives the path an edge; at that height it is also a place to sit.Idea photo
A front yard with a long curving planting bed of shrubs and flowers between the lawn and the house
Draw the beds in long curvesOne broad curve is easier to mow along than a row of small wiggles, and it reads from the street.Idea photo

04Where we work

Based in Brentwood, working across three towns

  • BrentwoodWilliamson County · home base
  • FranklinWilliamson County

And the Middle Tennessee towns around them. A Nashville homeowner chose Wilhelm for a retaining wall out of three quotes; what they said is on the hardscape page.

Hunter and his team did a fabulous job for us after the winter cold of 2023! Highly recommend Hunter and his men!

05Answers

What people ask before they call

How much does landscaping cost in Brentwood, TN?

There is no flat price, because no two yards need the same work: the figure comes in a written estimate after Hunter has walked the property, and the consultation and the estimate are both free. What moves it most is the size of the area, how much soil has to be dug out or brought in, whether stone or walls are part of it, and how easily a machine can reach the back yard.

How long does a landscaping project take?

Most patio and hardscape installations are finished in one to three weeks once the crew starts, and site preparation on its own usually takes a few days to a week. You get the schedule for your job at the consultation, before anything is ordered.

Do you work in Franklin and Nashville, or only Brentwood?

All three: the company is based in Brentwood and works across Brentwood, Franklin and Nashville, plus the Middle Tennessee towns around them. If you are a little farther out, call and ask.

Can one company design the landscape and build it?

Yes, that is how Wilhelm works: Hunter Wilhelm studied landscape architecture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the same company that draws the plan puts in the stone, the plants and the drainage. Nothing is lost in a handoff between a designer and a separate installer.

Do you look after the yard once the work is done?

Yes. The last step of every job is a maintenance plan sized to what was planted and to what you want to spend, and lawn and yard care is offered on its own as well.
